Independent Community Advocate

We have the following vacancy:-

Independent Community Advocate

 37 hours per week.

  • Starting salary £25,367 per annum.
  • A combination of working from home, office-based working at the Derby West Business Centre office (Mackworth, Derby) and with travel throughout Derbyshire and out of area when required.

Derbyshire Mind has a long history of providing high quality, independent advocacy services throughout Derbyshire.  We are looking for someone who is passionate about empowering and involving people in decisions about their own lives to join our Community Advocacy team.

As an Independent Community Advocate, you will work with a wide range of people to ensure that an individual’s unique views, wishes and preferences are expressed clearly and are central to care planning and decision making.  This will include people with dementia, learning disabilities, older people, people with mental ill health, Asperger’s and/or autism.

You will help people to speak up and act for themselves and will facilitate supported decision making.  This can include listening, providing information and representing someone’s views by speaking on their behalf.

The Role

This is an interesting and varied role, carrying a busy caseload providing one-to-one advocacy support to a range of vulnerable people in the community.

We offer our advocates the opportunity to work flexibly, from home or in the office, alongside undertaking client visits across Derbyshire and sometimes out of area.

Whilst a qualification in independent advocacy is desirable this is not essential.  We will provide the successful candidate with all the support needed to achieve the qualification in the first year as an advocate.

Derbyshire Mind is one of a federated network of local Mind charities across the country.  Our focus is on improving mental health and wellbeing for people across Derby and Derbyshire.  We provide a range of advocacy and community mental wellbeing services designed to support people with mental health problems, as well as the wider population.
