Could you be a Volunteer MindSpace group leader?

Are you friendly, welcoming, and a great listener?
Could you help to lead our friendly and informal MindSpace groups (Sinfin Moor Park, and also possibly Markeaton Park) on Fridays?
Would you love to be part of our growing Derbyshire Mind Volunteers Network?

We are always expanding our MindSpace network of Community Volunteers so if you are a reliable and friendly person who is passionate about supporting their community and is interested in leading a local walk with Derbyshire Mind then we would really love to hear from you!

As a valued Derbyshire Mind volunteer, we would provide you with all the necessary training and support to run these MindSpace walks together with our other Walk Leader volunteers, and help you to make a real difference to people in your local community experiencing mental health challenges.

The Role

Community Volunteer (MindSpace Walk Leader)

Hours: 2 hours a week or a fortnight
Salary: Volunteer role with expenses paid
Location: Sinfin Moor Park in Sinfin (and also Markeaton Park if you were interested in that walk too)
Closing Date: Ongoing

About MindSpace:

We know that spending time in green space such as going for a stroll in a local park with a friendly and understanding group of people can really benefit both mental and physical wellbeing.
Derbyshire Mind’s MindSpace walks are informal community walks in local parks and cafes. They are designed to provide a supportive and empathetic listening group to those that may need it while getting out and benefiting from the fresh air and abundant nature we have around us.
The walks are not vigorous walks, more a relaxed walk and a chat. They are informal and unstructured so that they can flex to suit whatever the group needs or wants.

Main Purpose of the Role:

The main purpose of this Walk Leader role is to facilitate the welcoming feel and overall success of Derbyshire Mind’s MindSpace walks in Sinfin Moor Park (and potentially also Markeaton Park) in Derby, by:

  • providing a warm, friendly and non-judgemental presence in the group
  • initiating a relaxed walk around the local park alongside a fellow MindSpace volunteer
  • supporting group attendees by being a good listener and a generally a friendly person to chat with
  • and by being a positive ambassador for Derbyshire Mind

– For the full list of responsibilities, please read the role description

About MindSpace in Sinfin Moor Park:

MindSpace in Sinfin Moor Park (Off Sinfin Lane, DE24 9HW) meets every Fortnight on a Friday Morning at 10.30am until approx 11.30am or 12pm.

Together with second Walk Leader Volunteer you will meet and greet the walk attendees in the Sinfin Moor Car Park at 10.30am before setting off for a walk and talk around the park. You will provide company and an empathetic listening ear to the attendees and help them feel welcomed and listened to.

Sinfin Moor Park is a hidden gem, tucked away down Sinfin Lane by Redwood Primary School and just before Woodbine Garage. It has fabulous walking routes, including a new path all around the outside of the playing fields, and also a nature reserve and currently some resident Highland Cattle.

Upcoming Sinfin Walk dates include: 7th Jan, 21st Jan, 4th Feb, 18th Feb, 4th Mar, 18th March and so on.

(We would also be grateful for support to help lead our Markeaton Park walks on the opposite Fridays if you were available then too. But Sinfin Park is our priority at the moment.)
