The Craft and Coffee Club
Come and join us at our fortnightly craft and coffee club where we will get creative to support our Mental Wellbeing
Introducing our new Craft and Coffee Club in Swadlincote in partnership with New Bloom Arts. Our Craft sessions are open to adults (18+) who would like to explore and express their selves through arts and craft. In our relaxed setting, you can come along and have a cup of tea or coffee with the group whilst getting creative and calming the mind. All are welcome to participate in some creative and mindfulness activities that participants can take home with them. The Craft and Coffee club will be a safe place to relax, socialise and have fun with likeminded people.
Meet the Group facilitator
Hi, I am one of the Co-directors of New Bloom Arts CIC. I have quite a varied background in my career. I’ve worked in the corporate world, gained child care qualifications, worked in retail, qualified as an Emergency Medical Technician and worked within the wider NHS. In 2020 we all experienced the very difficult time of our first lockdown and living in a pandemic. It was a time of uncertainty and for many of us life moving forwards changed. Towards the end of 2020 I lost my dad and it was this that made me rethink my career and ultimately had
me saying goodbye to the ambulance service. Throughout all of my varied career, I have struggled with my mental health and in June 2024 I was diagnosed with ADHD. I have used creative activities to help with emotional regulation, understanding myself and understanding how taking time for myself is important.
Derbyshire Mind, working in partnership with New Bloom Arts CIC
New Bloom Arts is a new community interest company that is looking to bring creative wellbeing workshops to Derby and the surrounding areas within Derbyshire. Using our own lived experience and professional knowledge as artists, we want to assist in the self management of mental health and wellbeing both within the workplace and within the broader community.
Derbyshire Mind are very excited to be working with New Bloom Arts to bring you fortnightly sessions at our building in Swadlincote.
How does Creative and Expressive Art help with our wellbeing?
Creative and expressive art can boost our well-being by offering a unique outlet for processing emotions, enhancing self-awareness, and even improving mental health.
Art allows individuals to express emotions they may find difficult to put into words, like frustration, sadness, or joy. Painting, drawing, and other art forms can serve as emotional outlets, providing relief from stress.
Mindfulness through art shifts focus away from daily worries and helps create a calming effect, improving mental clarity and reducing rumination on negative thoughts.
