We believe in empowering local groups to improve the mental wellbeing of communities across Derbyshire.

Welcome to our webpage showcasing successful applications of the ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing Activity Project 2023-24’ Small Grants Programme. We are delighted to present a diverse group of organisations whose innovative projects aim to improve mental health and promote overall wellbeing in our community.

We hope this compilation of successful applications inspires you to support and engage with these projects. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

Phase 2 - Grant Partners

All Being Well (Feelgood Fridays) The project is a social creative group and also aims to deliver creative activities in a social environment leading to the improvement of overall well-being, skills, learning and the development of friendships.
Derbyshire Cricket Foundation (Dads, Bats and Chats) The project focuses on mental wellbeing and is open to men, aimed at bringing Dads and expectant dads to come together in a safe space to connect and enjoy taking part in sport together.
District Musicians (Music To Your Door and Dementia Café in Derbyshire) District Musicians are 2 highly trained professional musicians who will take music sessions into the homes of people living at home with dementia in Derbyshire. Our music improves the mental wellbeing of our service users and their families and carers.
FLEET ARTS (Bloomin' Marvellous) Running creative wellbeing sessions in an outdoor area within a relaxing garden. The aims would be to enable people to feel connected to their environment/nature, have time/space to relax, meet other (Carers) to network with, get fresh air and green therapy, learn new skills, socialise, express themselves creatively.
Football for Development CIC t/a Be Well Active (Move Yourself Happy / Glossop) We want to create and develop two initiatives in the Glossop area, both using traditional sports but delivering them in a way designed to maximise adherence (or commitment) to the session and connection between the participants. All our sessions will be open to people of all ages who are happy to play "the Be Well way", gently and with a smile and a laugh but we want to target a specific at risk group, older people.
Happivale Social Club – Long Eaton and District Mencap (Healthy Happivale) Activities we wish to deliver are a variety of physical dancing sessions including line dancing, discos, and ball room dancing (Happivale does Strictly). Alongside seated exercise, Yoga, Boxfit, outdoor games in ‘school sports day’ style sessions and bowling alley sessions.
Heartwood Social Farming Centre CIC (Heartwoods SFC and DDCMHT, Active Communications) Heartwood Social Farming Centre CIC focuses on the social/therapeutic aspect of the project. We host a number of therapeutic services at the farm run by individuals and organisations that share our aims and form a wider community of nature based therapeutic support.
High Peak Community Arts (Project eARTh) We work with participants who struggle with mental ill health, many of whom also live with other long-term conditions such as learning and physical disabilities (including those on the autistic spectrum, and those experiencing emotional difficulties (including bereavement, anxiety and low self-esteem). Participants work collectively in a variety of artforms to create artworks for the community, many with themes around the environment and the natural world.
Home-Start Erewash (StARTer Kit) We plan to provide creative workshops to promote emotional wellbeing for parents impacted by the many challenges they are facing. Activities are designed as an introduction to the benefits of playful and expressive art and give parents the confidence and desire to try these activities with their children in the home setting.
Honey Hope Farm CIC (Honey Hope Farm Peer Groups) We are looking for support to grow our mental wellbeing group who meet once a week to connect with nature, grow their peer network, learn new skills and support one another. The group has a number of regular workshops. Teaching them skills they can then put into practice whilst they grow in confidence.
Hurst Farm Regeneration (The Farmer's Garden Social Space) Since the spring, we’ve been building a community garden named “The Farmers Garden” on the Hurst Farm Estate in Matlock. We now want to provide a 'social space' for the garden: a sheltered community area to enable year round social contact. It'll be twofold: a shed for sitting, sharing a cuppa, storing tools, socialising etc; and a polytunnel which will provide an area of indoor working, but also extend the growing season and activity opportunities. Both the shed and polytunnel will also enable water harvesting.
Mind Over Mountains (Peak District Open Wellbeing Walks) Our impactful programme of wellbeing walks brings together walking in nature, mindfulness and the support of professional counsellors and coaches. Each walk allows sixteen individuals struggling with mental ill health, to take part in an engaging and physically accessible walk in nature, supported by a coach and a counsellor and by two mountain leaders.
OPUS Music CIC (Bolsover Community Music Making) This project will take weekly music-making activity to people living with dementia and their carers, within the Bolsover region. The project is a continuation and development of our successful current community work in Bolsover. This has been co-designed alongside Social Prescribing Link.
Pilamaya Centre for Integration Psychotherapy (Doorway to Meditation Eight Week Course: Using Meditation and Movement for Mental Health) The PCIP supports members of the local community (within the proximity of Eyam village) who wish to take part in movement/meditation classes that enhance mental and physical health. We also work to create pathways for people seeking personal therapy or wanting to enter into the helping traditions through the professional training courses offered. We also offer further training for professionals working in the field of mental health.
Positive Healthy Vibes (Relax and Unwind) Project to run workshops to help relieve stress and anxiety and help strengthen the local community. This will benefit both young and older adults. Delivering 6 sessions of 2 hours workshops on stress and anxiety relief with a toolkit of coping strategies and opportunities to share stories or thoughts.
Rebuild Project (Rebuild Therapy and Coaching Hub) Utilizing movement, art and other therapeutic modalities plus wellbeing sessions, support will culminate with resilience and trauma informed life coaching sessions. This pathway moves individuals from regulation to processing to progressing. We will use our therapy room in our building and our trauma informed coaching and therapy manager will administer the project, our wellbeing worker, and sessional therapists.
RHUBARB FARM (FARM FITNESS) Rhubarb Farm would like to launch FARM FITNESS, a year-long series of free weekly 1-day events for isolated, vulnerable people with mental ill health. Events will be targeted at local people most in need e.g., those living with learning disability or mental health support needs, those living in temporary accommodation, young carers, refugees, those recovering from substance abuse, those living with bereavement, and those living in the most deprived areas (according to Indices of Multiple Deprivation).
Riding for Smiles (Get Set to get out, get involved, get more healthy) The project will provide a weekly equestrian experience and participation in a self-help group. The sessions included a horse/pony ride or a ride in the
carriage (for wheelchair users, those over the weight limit or those without the
confidence to ride).
Shining Cliff Centre CIC (Nurtured by Nature) ‘Nurtured by Nature’ will provide a service for adults in the local community who would like to spend time outdoors in nature, meeting other people and learning new skills. This would benefit their overall sense of wellbeing and support good mental health whilst being physically active.
South Derbyshire CVS (Mental Health & Well-being Outreach Support Group) We want to establish a new Mental Health & Well-being Outreach Support Group which will replicate our successful existing group based in Swadlincote. The group will offer a non-clinical, person-centred approach which supports people to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
The Gasworks Sudbury (Wellbeing for Life Derbyshire) The Gasworks Sudbury would like to establish a programme of activity which supports the physical health and wellbeing of expectant and new mothers and fathers. We will create a programme which includes movement and holistic wellbeing activities aimed at expectant/new mothers from 30 weeks pregnancy to 3 months post birth, and expectant/new fathers which would run in 6-week blocks.
Wild Roots Creative CIC (Greenspace Community Craft Group) We have been providing a regular wellbeing sessions using craft, creativity, nature and the outdoors for a range of individuals who have been signposted to us for the last 18months. It is open to all and currently has a mixture of parents of children with additional needs, adults recovering from addiction, older adults, people who feel isolated and others who just want to craft and be social.
Willington Community Conservation Group (Dumbles Wild Wellbeing) The work of the WCCG is focused on a piece of woodland, known locally as The Dumbles, so named because it sits between two bodies of water. WCCG would like to build on the momentum started with the WLT by delivering wild wellbeing sessions regularly with local people to increase mental wellbeing, nature connectedness and social connectedness.

Community Growth CIC (The Growth Project) Learn some new skills, get outside and meet new people in a fun, supportive and safe environment.
Craft Wood CIC (Green Crafters) Craft Wood is a woodland project that offers hands on outdoor opportunities to people with a variety of support needs. We aim to provide meaningful and purposeful activities through the management of the woodland, the developing of woodwork, art, enterprise and life skills – that can help people live healthier and more connected lives.
Create and Connect (Creative Conversations) Creative wellbeing workshops and retreats.
Express, Explore and Connect

Derbyshire Dales CVS (RSPB Nature Prescriptions for Derbyshire Dales) The RSPB Nature Prescription is a guided conversation to encourage and support a connection with the natural world, supported by a prescription leaflet and a seasonal calendar of ideas and suggestions enabling meaningful nature connections.
Elephant Rooms CIC as part of Southeast Derbyshire Provider Collaborative (Overcoming Barriers to Accessing Community Based Mental Wellbeing) Enable people in need of mental health support to access the community based provision offered by the Southeast Derbyshire Provider Collaborative.
Inspirative Arts CIC (LEAP FORWARD – Long Eaton Arts Participation For Wellbeing, Activity, Recovery & Development) Arts therapies and creative wellbeing sessions across the East Midlands.
Integration Psychotherapy Services CIC (Yoga Therapy for Mental Health and Wellbeing) This eight-week Yoga Therapy for Wellbeing course at The Space in Eyam Hall Courtyard is for people who want to feel healthier and learn simple ways to help manage stress. The course is designed to teach people how to use breath and movement to manage thoughts, be more aware of their bodies and come into the present moment.
Pathways of Chesterfield (Pathways Women's Activity Group) Arts and crafts, meditation, yoga, book club, jewellery making, baking, textiles, pamper sessions, upcycling, candle making, music, movies, cooking, walking, singing, the list goes on……. JOIN US!

Staffordshire Care Farming Development CIC (Derbyshire WELLIES Project) The WELLIES Project offers therapeutic learning activities with animals, plants, creativity and the countryside for people recovering from mental ill health.
